Yes. Our adventure includes Raiders of the Lost Ark locations inside Maguer Gorge used for the Ark of the Covenant canyon procession. We’ll have a stop at the Bouhlel Sdada date palm orchard staged as the expansive Tanis digs set with pinpointed locations for the Well of the Souls, Map Room, German Flying Wing runway, and segments of Indy’s dirt road chase after the Ark of the Covenant on the German truck. We’ll also conclude with a half-day visit to the ancient Kairouan medina used extensively for Indy’s Cairo with 17 total filming areas (streets, plazas, and properties) in the old city. This one-of-a-kind Indiana Jones tourism experience includes the iconic Cairo swordsman plaza, Marhala Bar location, and an exclusive sunset event on the rooftop dressed as Sallah’s terrace.

Yes. This is one of the highlights. Although a rustic lodging option, overnighting at Hotel Sidi Idriss (Lars Homestead interior film site) in Matmata is a must-do experience for Star Wars fans. The hotel provides separate bedrooms with a communal restroom area. Sipping blue milk at breakfast in the subterranean Lars Homestead dining room is as immersive as it gets.

Our adventure includes one full day on ATVs (doubling as “podracers” or “landspeeders” depending on the location) as the mode of transportation to all Star Wars sites in the desert dunes and salt flat areas near Nefta in the Tozeur region. As a bonus, this one-of-a-kind ATV adventure allows travelers to race in the dune impression used to shoot “Boonta Eve Classic” starting grid footage for The Phantom Menace. Adult guests can choose to drive their own ATV or ride with a co-traveler. Youth and children are obligated to ride as ATV passengers.

Yes. All age groups are welcome with some restrictions. Travelers under 18 years old must be accompanied by an adult. Some hiking activities might be too strenuous for young children. ATV riders must be at least 8 years old to participate.

Yes, with exceptions. Although most itinerary stops permit direct vehicle drop-off on flat terrain, several locations require movement on uneven/rocky/sandy surfaces. Not suitable for wheelchairs or scooters. Please contact us for case-by-case considerations.

No. Tunisians practice a very tolerant version of Islam. Although the traditional dress for females includes a headscarf, Tunisian society accepts all forms of fashion. Modern dress standards are embraced as a common part of daily life.

3G/4G connectivity is reliable throughout Tunisia. Mobile access is available at all Star Wars and Indiana Jones locations (excluding Maguer Gorge), enabling unhindered access to the digital reference guides during the tour. Some international carriers offer unlimited data roaming in Tunisia for smartphone/hotspot usage. For most travelers, the easiest option is to purchase inexpensive prepaid Tunisian SIM cards with streamlined data refill options at airport kiosks for less than $5 (one SIM card preloaded with 10GB of data). Our preferred provider in the country is Orange Tunisia.

Power sockets in Tunisia are type C (Europlug) and E. Adaptors might be needed to charge smartphones and other dual voltage electronics. Portable chargers are strongly recommended to ensure all-day device functionality.

DT (French: dinar tunisien) is the abbreviation most commonly used for the currency in Tunisia. 1 DT is subdivided into 1,000 milim, which are used to express small, fractional prices. Tunisian taxis—a safe and inexpensive method of travel in cities—often quote fares in milim. A taxi fare of 4,750 milim, for example, equates to 4.75 DT. Bartering localities (like street markets and roadside shops) also deal in milim. Established commercial enterprises use “whole” dinar prices.

Tunisia functions in general as a cash-based economy in most sectors. We recommend carrying a small sum of cash (100-200 DT) for travel continuity during the tour. International credit and debit cards, however, are widely accepted at hotels, restaurants, major grocery outlets, shopping centers, and businesses catering to travelers.

ATMs offer the most flexible way to obtain Tunisian dinars at the best conversion rate. Although 24-hour ATMs are numerous in city centers and other high-traffic areas (like airports), the availability to withdraw funds from ATMs is sometimes hit or miss, especially on evenings and weekends. ATM cash restocking schedules vary widely. The Tunisian dinar is a closed currency with legal restrictions on both importing and exporting the currency in or out of the country.

Arabic is the official language of Tunisia. Natives speak the Tunisian/Maghrebi Arabic dialect. French is widely spoken by the majority of the population. English and Italian, to a much lesser extent, also serve as lingua francas. Foundational German and Russian are spoken on a limited basis in touristic zones. Dialects of the Tunisian Amazigh (Berber) languages—collectively referred to as Shelha—are spoken in distinct population pockets in the southeastern governorates and on Djerba island, to include locales such as Douiret, Chenini, Matmata, Tamezret, Ajim, Guellala, and Sedouikech. Regardless of the language used, responsible travelers will find it easy to integrate into the proactively inclusive Tunisian culture.

The following vaccinations are recommended (not required): chickenpox (varicella), COVID-19, hepatitis A, hepatitis B, influenza, measles, meningitis, mumps and rubella (MMR), pneumonia, polio, rabies, shingles, Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis), and typhoid. Yellow fever vaccination certificate not required. Contracting malaria in Tunisia is low risk.

Petty crime targeting tourists is rare. The Tunisian proclivity to embrace, accept, and protect international visitors is both genuine and ingratiating. International media outlets—especially since the cluster of mass-casualty attacks in Tunis and near Sousse in 2015—routinely paint Tunisia as a hotbed for radical Islamic extremism. This perception is fundamentally false. The overwhelming majority of Tunisians interpret terrorism to be in direct conflict with Tunisian ideals and values. Pivotal security developments since 2016 to thwart Islamist activity in Tunisia continue to drastically minimize the probability of future large-scale terrorist attacks inside the country. The current security challenge posed by organized Islamist groups based in Tunisia mirrors a low-impact insurgency combating Tunisian security forces rather than a protracted terrorist campaign. These militant groups, relatively small in number with no capacity to seize control of any populated territory, operate autonomously in northwestern Tunisia, primarily in isolated mountainous areas in the Kasserine and Kef governorates. In regard to ISIS-inspired/politically motivated “lone wolves,” the probability of a single-actor attack in Tunisia is no greater than the rate of such attacks in regionally adjacent European countries.
